being helpless to stop the plight of the world and save his tree

This is a headcanon memory of Ratatosk's time as, well, Ratatosk. And not masquerading as Emil Castagnier. It is going to have some serious repercussions once Ratatosk actually takes it. So I'm listing out the effects before I go into what this memory actually contains.

1) He will know his true identity. I won't say everything will fall into place, but he will, without a doubt, know that he is Ratatosk, and that Emil is some sort of fabrication.
2) Emil will also receive this memory! As this memory is from his time when Ratatosk wasn't trying to cleave off everything about him that trusted and could be hurt, it's very much Emil's memory too. But this will be predominantly Ratatosk's memory.
3) This memory will set off a visceral reaction in Ratatosk when he finally takes it. He will try to kill something. He'll aim for Mithos, and then settle for anyone close-by if he has to. So, I ask that people work with me on this?
4) This memory will make Emil far less likely to seek out Dream to seal Ratatosk away. HOWEVER, depending on how people deal with Ratatosk's reaction, and how Emil sees it, I would not completely rule it out. This relates to the previous point, and trying to kill someone in visceral rage would be something Emil couldn't tolerate and would push him to seek that option.

I am not necessarily against, in this case, Ratatosk succeeding or almost succeeding. I would prefer he not, and I'm fairly sure that someone will stop him before he can so that option might be off the table entirely.

NOW TO THE MEMORY!!

This thread captures whhhhat happened pretty succinctly. EMIL/RATATOSK WAS NOT ACTUALLY THERE. Assume he watched in horror, and felt it when his tree officially died. H-HENCE THE REACTION! Because the cause of this was not there, and Ratatosk himself was pretty much incapacitated by the feeling... his rage got to just build over thousands of years, instead of getting an immediate release.

/WIMPS OUT ON WRITING THIS OUT

A-Any questions...?
squirreledaway: (I'm sorry I'm really goddamn adorable.)
I'm massively behind with my write-ups, so I'll be catching up now.

Aaaanyway. OMG MARTA MEMORY!!! and this is like. The Marta Memory man.

+ 100 khdfjksdhfjdshf what is this girl talking about 'Will I save her' again. She's gotta be kidding me!
+ 50 ksdfjksdhf what was I thinking going out there by myself... Man, I suck at this fighting thing.
+ 20 ... did I have amnesia problems before Aather?

Expect a lot of psyducking and w-w-what /// from him for the rest of the day, even as he. Works on his quest to fix his eye. :T

I will use this chance to segue into an essay I mentioned I wanted to do on Plurk. :U

RATATOSK IS INSANE )

Lloyd provided a temporary solution for Ratatosk to not attack others, butttt I'm going to make this post serve double duty as a memory write-up and a permissions list. If you are okay with Ratatosk attacking you, please comment here.

I cannot guarantee it will ever happen, because I'm not entirely sure I'll ever be ready for the fallout that Emil will inevitably have to deal with, but. Just in case.
squirreledaway: (Really wanna test that?)

From 2:17 on.

Until 8:00.

Things learned:
+ OH THAT'S WHY I BECAME A KNIGHT OF RATATOSK. Made a pact. Whatever.
+ Pacting with monsters to improve his strength!
+ Ratatosk is going to end the world? Centurions severed their bond with him? This is really confusing.
+ The lord of all monsters... Huh.

AND NOW! I'll talk about pacting. )

For those of you with magic senses, you'll also start to notice something strange about him the most pacts he completes. Because essentially, he is reestablishing himself as the Lord of All Monsters, though he doesn't realize that right now. So if you could comment to this post so I can give you a heads up on what you'll sense every time he completes a pact.
squirreledaway: One of these things just doesn't belong here~ (I'm sorry this icon is not like the othe)
This one's a skit, but I honestly don't feel like finding it on youtube atm, since the skits are in large chunkfiles. '-'

Anyway, in this skit, Marta decides to take over cooking! Which is something Emil usually does. She makes it clear that she's doing this to impress Emil, since the quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Of course, while Emil gives it the honest try, he ends up fainting as soon as he tries her food. To which she insists, "But Daddy always told me he loved my cooking..."
It's a short, stupid clip of Marta and Emil being... Marta and Emil. I know this was a Triv Neg, but it's coming to him as a Triv Pos. Because while the food is terrible, Emil isn't aware of why Marta doting on him freaks him out. He just finds it flattering, and is vaguely confused by his vaguely anxious feelings in this memory. (The reason being he doesn't realize Marta was idealizing him to an unhealthy degree.)

Things he learned:
+ Wow it's really flattering that she was going to try and cook for me.
+ But I don't think I'm ever going to eat her cooking again
+ I was the party cook!
+ I really need to learn how to cook again.
squirreledaway: (I'm sorry you're such a jerk.)

From 1:14 to 7:20, minus the exposition, and every single part with Marta in it.

This memory is what informs Emil of a lot of his anger and hate for Lloyd. It's a pretty pivotal memory for him, and is the brunt of a lot of bad things. He endures 6 months of suffering in Luin for this, and it's the thought of getting even with Lloyd that really starts driving him. Yes, he initially makes the pact to protect Marta, HOWEVER, it is getting even with Lloyd that eventually overtakes his drive to protect Marta. And this memory is part of that!

So yes, there is a lot of hate, anger, confusion, hopelessness, and guilt wrapped up into this one little memory. Hate, anger, and confusion at what happened and the senselessness of it, hopelessness and guilt because... dude just lost his parents and his mom basically told him he had to live, and that's just not enough for him with those former emotions.

However, this memory is "off." And not in a way Emil would notice, but someone else would notice something is just wrong about the memory. And that's because most of it is manufactured, so that Ratatosk can take over being Emil Castagnier. THERE ARE... A LOT OF THINGS I COULD SAY ABOUT THIS MEMORY AND ITS IMPLICATIONS but I will just leave it at the general. That Emil will... be coping kind of steady with it, but expect random bouts of depression if he's allowed to dwell on it.

THERE, LLOYD IRVING o9!!!

OH BOY, LLOYD HATE )

:'D After LLOYD THE MENACE, more memories of Emil getting angrier and angrier that people stand up for Lloyd. Honestly, this probably should include the scene with Zelos in the Dynasty Ruins, but I need to lay off the montage memories. (thankfully, this one did not require my going through 2 hours of skit footage...)

Anyway, this just serves to further complicate Emil's feelings towards Lloyd. As if they weren't complicated enough...
squirreledaway: (I'm sorry I'm confused.)
Oh boy, memory #1 for Emil!!

From 1:49 to 6:19.

+ Emil is his name.
+ Courage is the magic which turns dreams into reality! (obsessing over this phrase is a skill to be unlocked)
+ I... I'm not a dog...
+ d-dere...

memory 01

squirreledaway: (I'm sorry you don't like my cute food!)
Starter memory:

"Bow before the great Lloyd Irving!"

I will add a video later, but Emil has been told to stop being a troublemaker. He's blamed for the increased monsters around Luin, and the entire town views him with mistrust because of the rumors of Palmacosta's Blood Purge. They believe his family was involved with the Liberation Front, which is decidedly anti-Lloyd.

Emil goes to the fountain in Luin where Lloyd's statue is, and is angry because Luin honors a man he thinks has killed his parents. Some kids in Luin try to make him bow down to it, but while he is a pushover, he refuses to bow.

He's saved from them by Richter.
