So, I think you know Emil adores Cassie.

And Ratatosk knows he is being pretty irrational about this, but the effect of the darkness on him was really weird compared to everyone else. So there is a worry of, "She probably meant that somewhere inside her." Or rather, that is what he is thinking. IT'S NOT LIKE HE LIKES YOU, PERIDOT. And I think, while he would have been more meh about the entire encounter had he not been slowly dying through it, being backed into a corner makes him resentful of anyone who does such.

And in this case, it was Cassie. So, it was all he could do to let her think he didn't give a shit, and that he was calling her bluff... And had she actually pressed forward with strangling him, his bravado would have instantly faded away. Because letting someone kill him is not something he's okay with-- but the fact that she was literally one push away from completely breaking his facade is extremely uncomfortable in and of itself.

Combine that with all of his worry about her being serious somewhere, and he just wants to leave Peridot, because that sort of weight is something he feels he absolutely cannot deal with. Or worse, he can't find his own place within the team. You can't hurt me if I'm not part of Peridot, etc. So, the next time they talk... He's going to be extremely cold, if not leaning towards being cruel, to make up for the fact that she hurt him.

Reverse?

She's REALLY UPSET about how things went down. Buuuut she doesn't understand Ratatosk, or his place on the team, and she likes Emil. So he's not entirely wrong that she meant parts of it, but to regular Cass, not rocking the team boat, and trying to understand Ratatosk, totally takes precedence. Those negative feelings she has about him are things she's actively trying to overcome, but she just feels like he's never going to like her, so she'll never understand him.

Actually, she's talking to Ven about it. She's really worried that their relationship is going to be an Issue and it will hurt the team overall, though she will try her best to be repentant and patient.

(He knows how to get her mad though)

SO WHY ISN'T RATATOSK SURE ABOUT HIS PLACE ON THE TEAM aside from the things Cass has done?

Ratatosk and teams are hard.

He's actually starting to get a little more comfortable, ironically. But Ratatosk gravitates towards Beatrice more than any other person on the team. Because she knows about his rage, and doesn't ask the type of probing questions everyone else does. And also she admitted that she has some understanding of what he feels. So, that means a lot to him, especially because Ratatosk has such a hard time with being on a team. He's a lot more comfortable in the protector/knight role than he is in any other role, but he's competing with Cassie a bit for that role, sometimes. And Ven, sometimes.

Which I think feeds into him and Cassie clashing, because he's trying to compartmentalize her, and she's trying to compartmentalize him, and things just don't fit.

What do you think Cassie's reaction's gonna be to Ratatosk being the true personality?

SHE JUST DOESN'T UNDERSTAND IT the whole situation exists in entirely too much gray area for it to compute with her. But if she finally gets it, she'll work harder to understand him.

She just loves how cuddly emil is, and how much he likes her, and she'd be really sad if that went away, while still trying to work Ratatosk into place.

Well, technically, Emil is the squishy part of Ratatosk! So, he has the capability to be that squishy! He just completely cut it off from himself because he couldn't deal with betrayal very well. It's kind of fascinating in that, "So... you limited yourself to untold rage because that's better than feeling sad. Good. Job. Ratatosk."

UH THEY ARE REALLY CUTE? It was one of those things that I didn't expect and then it happened and it's gotten cuter and they're just really close now. They're going on a vacation! Eventually! But basically they've both tripped up a lot but I thiiiiink they've finally reached a point where it would take something absolutely massive to tear them apart, which I think is a relationship level-up. She's kind of over thinking he'll reject her over every little thing. idk they're really settling into their stride, ALMOST READY TO MAKE ADULT DECISIONS etc haha

Are you gonna miss her, Kit?

YES. He likes Judith and considers her a friend and a good poker partner, so he'll definitely miss the challenge she brings when she's gone. If she gets phone candles he may pester Sapphire to let him talk to her sometime.

What would Emil do if he good ended? Would he go home or would he stay to save Aather?

I... don't know.... Unlike Judith, Emil's arc is no where near done. As he is now, Emil would want to stay and help, and Ratatosk would want to go home.

Tell me about your Coraldere, Kit.

KIT LOVES CORAL. Coral is filled with kind and energetic people who are on similar wavelengths to Kit, so they endeared themselves to him veeeery quickly. He honestly cares about each and every member of his team, and he came to appreciate them as individuals beyond appreciating them as a singular team unit. He'd do a lot for them because he wants to protect them as much as he can! Which... is something he honestly takes too far sometimes, and although he does manage to look after his team and step into leadership roles when required, he is still struggling with how to be a good teammate to them. He needs to learn that being a good teammate means looking after himself just as much as he tries to look after the others though... and when he does learn that I imagine he'll truly be able to mesh with them as a better teammate rather than THAT RECKLESS SOUL who gets himself hurt while trying to save the people he cares about.

But either way, Kit loves Coral and he honestly tries for them, he just. Stumbles. A lot.

Tell me about Emil and Peridot :U!

Peridot is the perfect team for Emil. He gets exasperated with it, and he is totally about to verb Peridot because there's just no good way to describe what's wrong with them. BUT, I don't think Emil would have done well on a supremely stable team, either. Acting out, even if it means there's drama every game, has given Emil a chance to be a protector even when he's not very strong, physically. He can pull himself together to help Ven or Cassie... which is really good for Emil, because it takes him a lot longer to reach that point in canon.

And honestly, his exasperation with Peridot is like the exasperation you have for your immediate family. "I CAN'T BELIEVE MY SISTER DID THIS!!" but if anyone messes with your sister, someone is going to walk away with a black eye.

What is your favorite team you're not on?

I don't really have one! I really enjoy stalking all of the team dynamics, especially since they all have such distinct team identities, and I find all of them very fascinating. TEAMS ARE FUN, as is watching them develop and evolve as the game goes on.

What about Judy and Sapphire? What are Judy's feels on her team?

ECHO SUCKS...

No, Emil adores her. And-- Echo provides him a chance to actually try and protect someone? Like, it's stupid, but. Even though he and Echo have the same situation, he feels a little bit more experienced with it because he's had his Ratatosk mode for a lot longer than Echo's had Zwei. So he really just wants to try and support/reassure her because even if she's tsundere about it... he feels like it's helpful.

She's also tsundere, and Emil can't help but to respond to tsundere with extreme dere. So he's automatically drawn to her because how does I respond to tsun...? Clearly by ignoring that there's tsun at all.

He's concerned about her after the darkness event... but he also thinks that this might be one of those times he should let her have her space for a little while before he regroups and goes after her to make sure she's okay. SHE ENDED UP BECOMING ONE OF HIS MOST IMPORTANT OFF-TEAM CR. OH NO.

At this point Echo wants to do the same for Emil that he does for her! He listens to her and provides her with all sorts of helpful advice, and Echo wants to return the favor by someday being there to lend him a hand whenever he needs it... except she doesn't know how. She sucks with feelings, and she doesn't have enough insight to provide advice on much of anything. Not to mention she finds that Emil is a strong, w-wise person who probably doesn't even NEED her help.

THEN EMIL WAS ~DESTROYED~ BY THE DARKNESS. Naturally, after being undarknessed, Echo was upset to find that she didn't even bother to do much of anything about it. Even now she doesn't know what she could have done, because she knows that body-sharing is a complicated thing, but maybe chasing after Ratatosk or hunting him down and KILLING HIM could have fixed things! Echo was incredibly relieved to find that Emil was okay though. Now she's just embarrassed that he might know now that she was worried about him... JUST CHECKING ON YOU TSUNTSUN!! >:|;

Overall, Echo likes Emil! SHE TRUSTS HIM A LOT. I can definitely say that, outside of Turquoise, he is one of the most important people to her... if not the most, gosh. He is someone who goes out of his way to be nice, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, he understands her, which is a big deal because she feels like Turquoise doesn't exactly get her, especially as of late with the whole Zwei deal. She feels like they can relate and she genuinely likes that. However, while Echo will say all of the nice things about Emil, even to his face, she'll have difficulty admitting that she even considers him a friend because that is just how Echo is. YOUR REWARD FOR ALL OF YOUR EFFORT IS A LIFETIME SUPPLY OF TSUN.

...I am so amused that he has come such a long way from her first impression of him, ie the weak, pathetic person whom she would belittle and deliberately lie to. If Echo gave it thought, she would be really really surprised...

I feel like we talked about this over IRC before—please forgive me if we did—but why does Emil hug people? :>c
